Max Slevogt, the famous German Impressionist, was acclaimed by his contemporaries as the King of Illustration. This exhibition catalogue is the first to focus closely on his unique collaboration with Berlins most influential publisher during the Weimar Republic, Bruno Cassirer, which laid the foundations for the artists future reputation. The majority of Slevogts extensive and innovative illustrated works were published by Cassirer. The publisher repeatedly encouraged the artist to embark on projects and gave him the freedom to explore new subjects and modern creative approaches.
