Reinszenierung von antiken Räumen Catrin Huber (geb. 1968 in Lörrach, lebt und arbeitet in Newcastle upon Tyne) setzt sich in ihrer oft ortsspezifischen künstlerischen Praxis mit Architektur, Räumen der Fiktion und Imagination auseinander. In ihrem jüngsten Projekt reinszeniert Huber die Antikensammlung der Kunsthalle zu Kiel. Dabei kollidieren zeitgenössische Kunstwerke, antike Statuen, Frauen aus der griechischen Tragödie und der Gegenwart und die Architektur der Antikensammlung. Was macht den Reiz der Antike aus? Woher bezieht sie ihre Aktualität? Und wie kann sich ein Museum der Antike zeitgemäß zuwenden? Mit vielfältigen künstlerischen Techniken - Wandmalerei, Textilarbeiten, Collage, Installation, Sound und Film - gehen die Ausstellung und die Begleitpublikationdiesen Fragen nach. Räume werden gestaltet, die sich zwischen realer und fiktiver Architektur, zwischen Konkretem und Imaginärem bewegen. Huber hinterfragt dabei grundsätzlich das Verhältnis von Wand, Raum und Betrachter*in und lädt zum Nachdenken über antike und zeitgenössische Dekorprinzipien und Raumkonzepte ein. Lörrach, 1968; lives and works in Newcastle upon Tyne) engages with architecture, spaces of fiction, and the imagination. In her most recent project, Huber reenvisions the collection of antiquities at Kunsthalle Kiel, staging collisions between works of contemporary art, ancient statues, women from Greek tragedy and the present, and the collections architecture. What is the source of antiquitys charm? What makes it relevant today? And how can a museum of antiquities frame a contemporary perspective on antiquity? The exhibition and the accompanying publication draw on a wide variety of creative techniquesmurals, textile works, collages, installation and sound art, and filmto explore these questions. Creating rooms that blend real with fictional architecture, the tangible with the imaginary, Huber undertakes a probing interrogation of the interrelations between wall, space, and beholder and prompts reflections on ancient and contemporary principles of interior decoration and conceptions of architecture.
